Windows XP Installation



In the following tutorials, let's see how to install windows xp operating system in a stand alone computer.

Prerequisite:

  • XP boot-able installation CD or DVD
  • 40Mins of time :-)
Insert the CD or DVD into the CD/DVD drive and switch on the computer.,
on the Monitor(Screen) you'll see....

"Press any key to boot from cd..."

When you see this, press any key in the keyboard.. then you can see...


after pressing any key., windows installation files will start to load in a blue screen....


After loading the installation files, Windows installation allows you to either Install a new copy of Windows XP or repair the earlier installed windows or you can quite the setup by pressing "F3".
Now to install a new copy of windows XP press "ENTER"



To install or repair windows you need to agree the license agreement.. you need to accept it by pressing "F8"..



After you agree the license agreement, Windows will provide you the various option for installing the Windows XP.



Here this part will differ to according to individual installations. If your trying to install a new copy of windows, my suggestion is to delete the partion and install in windows in the deleted partion. To do so, select the partion where your previous windows XP is installed (Usually it would be 'C' drive).
Use your arrow keys to select the C: partion as show below.



To delete the selected partion, press 'D' it will show you the following screen. To confirm the deletion of the partion press 'L'. The partion will be deleted. Then lets create a new partion, select the deleted partion (the deleted partion name can be identified as 'Unpartitioned Space').

In the next screen., select the first option.....



Now the Windows Installation will copy the installation files to the disk, sit back and relax for few minutes.



You can see the progress bar, 



After copying all the installation files, computer will restart (Don't panic :-) )...


After restarting it'll prompt the same... "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD..." don't press any key just sit back... after a while you can see the Windows boot screen and it will continue the installation as in the following screen..



After a while, you can see the following screen.. press "NEXT"....
Note: If you need any optional language you can specify them here, just "customize" button and select your language from the list...


You need to enter your Name and the name of your Organization here.. and click NEXT


Here you need to specify your Windows XP product Key.. if you don't have one, just google it, and click NEXT


Here you can specify the name of your computer, and the administrator password.. Don't forget the password which you entered... Click NEXT


Here you can specify your time zone and can set the date and time.. click NEXT



Here you just click NEXT, later you can configure inside the windows.. 




If your computer is in any domain enter your domain name or skip and press NEXT..


Sit back for a while after 20 Mins (appx) your computer will restart again and will boot then you can see this screen, click "OK" windows will adjust the screen resolution according to your screen..



If your screen resolution is ok click "OK" or "CANCEL" to keep the previous resolution....




Click the NEXT button in the bottom right corner of your screen.,


select the 1st option.... click NEXT...



Select "NO" if your Windows is not genuine.... and click NEXT.... In the next screen windows will look for weather your computer is connected to the internet.. click on SKIP button.... 



Enter the User Names who will be using this computer... you can not enter "Administrator" or "password which you kept for the administrator" as the user name here.... click FINISH....



Enjoy your Windows XP., install drivers and other software you need..... Happy XP
